Flashbacks ceased being a tradition, and it got to a point where they were only occasional; they stopped completely after the season 6 finale. For the first few seasons of Psych , flashbacks were an important part of the show, and a lot of that had to do with the father-and-son chemistry of Corbin Bernsen and Liam James, with Bernsen's Henry giving Shawn a piece of fatherly advice in nearly every episode.
It was always interesting to see what trouble Shawn was getting into each week as a child, and how that problem would end up re-emerging as an issue for him in the present. Plus, Liam James' version of the character had many of his adult counterpart's mannerisms and personality traits, making it even easier to believe he was young Shawn. Their similarities were key, because they played into the idea that Shawn was like a child who had never quite grown up.

What is the problem with Liam playing a teen? He is actually fourteen years old. Why would they change young Shawn and not young Gus? So now it really makes no sense. Ok, now this really makes no sense. Well, young Gus is growing up, too. To me, this new kid looks older than Liam. LOL Sorry for all of the responses; just posting as I find out things. The new young Shawn Skyler Gisondo is actually a month older than Liam. I want Liam back! But Liam was so good!
No offense to the new actor, but I want Liam back also. I am 54 yrs old and my son is 16 and we love the show and Liam. So all age groups are disgusted at this new development. I hope the decision makers for the show see the comments posted. All of you have stated what my son and I thought too. Just have the young Shawn progress as a normal child does-it will make the show more real. After all, they have already had James play himself as a younger Shawn getting arrested in an episode; so why not have Liam continue progressing as a teenager does with the problems that come with the age?
By the way, my son and I rarely go on the computer at all, except for science facts-lack of time. We took time to hunt down a site that could explain what happened to Liam and hopefully see postings by individuals expressing their disappointment also.
